AboutMe

I grew up in awe and love with the painter, Isabelle Tuttle, who was my grandmother. I was lucky enough  as a kid to have original art surrounding me, and to have spent countless aimless, totally contented hours as a  watching and talking with a painter, as she painted, met with gallerists, and talked with other painters about process. She is long gone from this world, but her influence lives in me, and all the people who have her artwork hanging on their walls, and all those who enjoyed her love, gardens, and her terrific company.

I have made art my whole life, and looked at other's artwork, always asking HOW did they get their effects? and What were they trying to show me? I was the one in galleries and museums who made the security personnel nervous, I got so close, and lingered so long in front of the pieces that fascinated me.

In the second half of my life, I am entering a phase where I can truly explore what is is to see something that calls out to be painted, and to do the best I can to show what I see to others. It's a heady thing.

All my paintings, at their root, are about light, and a story of some kind. Who lives in that building? What does this hot afternoon sun feel like on these streets? Can you smell the pavement? The hot sage brush? The damp pines? In each, I want to share some kind of peace, the feeling that all is well, right here, right now.

Right now, it feels like every painting I make, I learn something new than informs every painting that comes after. Thank you for taking a look, and joining me.
